The 13.
I truly find this incident of my life is worth sharing again and again. It’s about how 13 simple, normal, mediocre people found courage to fight against negativity in their office.
All our lives, we dodge unjust things that affect us, even that humiliate in few cases. It’s always wiser to walk away and let karma handle the rest.
But, there are times where you are required to stand up for something you believe in. Raising your voice becomes a necessity to work for a cause that’s bigger than you.
Till last Saturday we were writers, working sincerely. The moment we felt that it’s high time someone stood against bullying that’s going on for years, we came together as a team and opposed. And, we are so glad we did! Yes, we were nervous but, we knew why we were doing this.
Consequently, we lost our jobs which we knew we will, but we had decided all or none. The company was obliged to remove all 13 writers, resulting in closure of company operations.
Today’s party was all about our termination. Sure, we were unemployed within 48 hours; long hours of anxiety and cluelessness of what might happen next, but, we kept our guard. When it all ended, we walked out with a plastered smile.
Workplace bullying is real. If you or anyone you know is going through it and if you feel you need to fight, do it. We may lose but the effort creates a message of intolerance to negativity. You will be so damn proud that you stood for something right! Trust me!
I was very lucky to have found people who backed each other, no matter the circumstances.
I hope you do too.
For respect and courage,
