Eyes, Not Screens
If you hear Simon Sinek, he always talks about how our mobile phones are ruining our relationships. The statistics show that suicidal rates have increased in past decade due to insomnia and people not feeling connected with anything. As human beings, we have a natural tendency to be a part of community, to belong. We also have the urge to be 'needed'. We love it when someone needs us.
As technology is promising to bring us together and make this world a smaller place, it is also diving all of our lives into each separate worlds. Our lives are not same anymore. A lonely soul hunched back on keyboard, looking for a partner on some site while he can just get up and talk to the girl who gave him a smile that morning. We have created a world of our own in an electronic device that operates on millions of virtual packets running all around like frenzy.
A lot of speakers are shining light on regulated usage of mobile phones. I hope that we all become aware that human relations are built on being there, emotionally and physically, consistently. I am a firm believer that little things matter. A genuine smile, an honest compliment, a glint in the eye, an affectionate touch, a hug - all these are huge in a relationship.
Today, let's talk to each other. I mean really talk- face-to-face. When was the last time you surprised your friend on a Friday night? When was last time you got flowers for your him? Do you remember last time you walked with her holding hands? Pick up your phone and call your parents.
We need to stop seeking the mask of technology and pretend everything is perfect. Instead, we have to get real, resolve our conflicts and be appreciative. It's high time.
Talk looking into eyes, not screens.
