It Was My Birthday
I turned 26 last week. The night before, after a long day, I read a book I’ve picked up for the week properly for 45 minutes, then walked to kitchen to soak almonds and walnuts, something that’s been on my list for a very long time. Later, I went to my table, opened my journal and began writing after many weeks, with instrumental Tumi Robi Nirobe playing in the background from Belaseshe (Bengali movie fan anyone?). I wrote two good pages explaining my diary about my life. When done, I headed for my bed, closed eyes and slept peacefully. Of course, got a few calls at 12am but that’s about it. I had a good night sleep.
Next morning, I got up as soon as the alarm buzzed. I did not hit the bed after turning it off, like always! I exercised a bit more that day, just pushed more than I do everyday. Got ready for office in my new top that Myntra delivered two days before and was out of house. I had a good day- wishes pouring in from everyone. And, I decided to follow the routine everyday. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that I did these things - 45 minute read, soaking nuts, journal and no snoozing- that I know are good for me but was being lazy to follow them. Since then, Ive been doing them everyday. Those simple acts have marked my birthday- pushing me, however small, to be better and do better.
That’s what I did on my birthday. What are you planning for yours?
As I always say, little things matter.
Love,
Prerana
This is the note I added that day just below my switch in case I miss anything before switching off the lights for the night.

On my birthday I recall my childhood and I recall my life
