One thing about home

I can say without a second thought that our home is the most precious thing to us. A place of our childhood and innocence, we turn to it everytime the world becomes too much to handle. It’s our oasis and ocean, all in one. Every little thing about the building, front yard, balcony is etched in our mind. There is always that one very special spot or thing about our home that has been major part of our loving memories. For me, it’s our almond tree. My dad says it was planted even before I was born. With me, it has grown huge and wide. I have had very special memories with it. I did all sorts of things with it.
Worst thing about it was it also had lots of ants. One time, I so badly wanted to climb it and get all the badams that hundreds of ants bit me. Lot of bashing by parents followed, but, I did manage to get many fruits. So, that was even! During summer vacations, neighbouring kids, my sister and I had only one job - eat the outer layer and crack up the hard part of the fruit to eat the fresh, tender almond inside. Everytime my mother prepared  Upma, badam leaves were our plate for the snack. On lazy afternoons, I used to just sleep under the shade of the tree and sing songs loudly, waking my mother up. On some Sunday evenings, my whole family would gather beneath it for a cup of tea. Particularly, I loved the times when the whole colony members got together for a meal and we had it in our front yard midst all the plants and trees. Those were simple days back then when people had meals together more often. That tree represents my childhood and much more sentiments to me. It’s strange how we get attached to things we never thought would matter in the first place.
