Planet or plastic?

Recently,  Natgeo had conducted a one-day program about plastic dumps. With this  initiative, ‘Planet or Plastic?’, they have captured very alarming images of plastic causing havoc in our world, especially in water bodies. My Instagram also showed Diya Mirza, who is an amazing environmentalist and being great at it lately, has supported this big time. The idea behind was to bring the damage done by regular usage of plastics to light and to create awareness about depleting marine-life or imbalanced ecology. Majorly, acquatic life is effected by human behaviour. We all know that even animals such as cows eat the indigestive plastic and die suffering.
We can all contribute in small ways to save ourselves. First one being not to accept plastic bags in shops. Proper disposal of water bottles or any other item every time we are out on road or on beach would also help. Trying to work for the organisation which helps cleaning the city would be hugely  appreciated, but, the small steps too go a long way.
An applauding step taken by Bangalore is to ban plastics in all shops. And, they are trying to clean the dumping areas as well. It’s seems simple on paper but the actual ground work is disgusting business. My area has one of the biggest dumps. Seeing the workers sort through the mess people throw is not scenic. We should be happy they are trying.
Let’s help in whichever way we can. Let’s be accountable for our actions. It’s created by each one of us. Our ecosystem is dying as we talk. Keep that in your mind next time you have a plastic in your hand.

Make better choices,
Prerana
